ASUU STRIKE: Union Issues 21 Days Notice To FG

On Monday, shortly after the National Executive Council meeting – NEC, the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) came out to issue a 21-day notice to the Federal Government as the union prepares to embark on a warning strike.
ASUU issued the notice at the end of its NEC meeting, which was held at the University of Ibadan on Monday, August 19, 2024.
According to the union body, the notice followed the initial strike threat over the non-implementation of agreements reached with the government.
This agreement has been hanging on the government for over 2 decades and is yet to be resolved. For this reason, many students affected by the strike have been mentally backward in their academics, or either graduated at an old age into a labor market where there is an age bracket for job seekers.
The after effect of the ASUU strike which has always fallen on deaf ears is worrisome. and the perpetual strike in itself has affected our youths and reduced our academic worth globally.
It is embarrassing that no Nigerian university is among the world’s top 100 universities. What then is the global worth of our academic qualification from Nigeria?
