Meet Comrade Netumbo Nandi Namibia’s First Female President

Meet Namibia’s first female president, Netumbo Nandi, a comrade, activist, and freedom fighter who has been a part of Namibia’s struggle for freedom since age 14.
Recently, Namibia’s newly elected President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has asked Germany to apologise and pay reparations as she reflects on the Namibian genocide and the country’s ongoing reconciliation efforts since 2015.

If the genocide in Congo committed by Leopold of Belgium was a tip, that of Namibia was an iceberg. Unfortunately, this is not well spoken of. But finally, Namibians have a leader with the gut and will to request reparations from Germany.
And to be clear to our women that what is happening in Nigeria is not the same as every other part of Africa and that you are on cause in the struggle to liberate not just yourself but together with every Nigerian from the shackles of this alainikanse bullies of a men in position of power.
Also worthy of note is that Africa, just like it has always been before colonisation, has again stood out among others to have presented more females in the position of leadership as either presidents or prime ministers than Europe and the United States of America combined.
In Africa, about 9 women have emerged as president since post colonisation till this very moment. These women leaders have emerged across all regions in Africa except Northern Africa; and our country, Nigeria, the leader of so-called ECOWAS, in west Africa does not seem to be interested in championing a cause for women to have a voice; instead, it has chosen to systemically silence women voices both in government and across many of our institutions.
To our women, your unity is what is feared the most. Since after Funmilayo Ransome Kuti, in the Egba women revolution, Nigeria haven’t experienced an absolute revolt led by women that will change completely a system. The Late Madam Funmilayo has already shown you the way, don’t settle for cheap disposable positions, come take your place in this nation.
