Only Thing That Can Save Nigeria Is A Revolution – Dele Farotimi

Let me break something down: while other aspirants were preoccupied with trying to win over delegates during the APC primaries, Tinubu was playing a different game. Instead of focusing on the delegates directly, he was targeting the powerbrokers the influential figures behind the governors, the true kingmakers. He wasn’t necessarily buying off sitting governors; he was winning over those who put them there. And those who couldn’t be bought? He was pressuring them into cooperation.

What we’re witnessing is a strategic consolidation of power some willingly, others through coercion, but all aligning under a common banner. Tinubu, once a political force even outside of elected office, is now officially at the helm, wielding real authority. There’s a difference between simply holding office and truly holding power and he now possesses both. Meanwhile, opponents like Atiku may still believe they have a fighting chance, but that may be a miscalculation.

Without the people’s unified stance, elections may just become a formality with outcomes predictable and legitimized by a judiciary many see as compromised. Look at Akpabio’s position as Senate President; many argue he’s there not because the process was just, but because systemic flaws allowed it.

If you’re placing your hopes in elections to rescue the country, you’re likely to be disappointed. Real change might only come through a radical shift. If the status quo persists, Nigeria risks descending further into chaos it may already be in one, only without clear frontlines. Continuing on this path could lead to complete collapse.
