African Health Ministers Unite to Combat Malaria Crisis in Yaoundé Summit
Ministers of Health from 12 African countries with the highest malaria burden gathered in Yaoundé, Cameroon, to discuss the challenge of ending malaria deaths.
Mali’s minister of health and social development, Dr. col Assa Badiallo, urged unity and increased participation from civil society, communities, and private actors to invest more funds in the fight against the disease.
The ministers agreed to improve communication, strengthen political efforts, increase resources, and improve national health research and innovation systems.
Malaria accounts for approximately 70% of global deaths, with the world’s first mass vaccine rollout starting in Africa.
