Extremist Rebels Attack Villages in DRC, Killing 11 – UN Reports
Extremist-linked rebels in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) attacked villages, killing at least 11 people, torching vehicles, and taking possessions.
The attacks occurred on Saturday and were reported by the local mayor. Allied Democratic Forces rebels with ties to the Islamic State group have long operated in the border area near Uganda.
The United Nations reported that almost 200 people have been killed there this year. The violence has led over 7 million people to flee their homes, with over 120 armed groups fighting for control of valuable mineral resources.
