Ghana’s President Akufo-Addo Stalls Anti-LGBTQ Bill Pending Supreme Court Decision

Ghana’s President Nana Akufo-Addo has stated that he has not yet received an anti-LGBTQ bill passed by the parliament, and that the country will not backslide on its human rights record.

The bill has been challenged in the Supreme Court, and the Ministry of Finance advised the president to desist from signing it into law.

The bill, which criminalizes the promotion, advocacy, funding, and acts of homosexuality, has sparked condemnation and backlash from activists and international rights groups. Akufo-Addo has advised the public to await the court’s decision before any action is taken.
