Government Approves N2.5 billion for Senator Akpabio’s Frivolous Expenses for his Constituency

Nigeria’s President Bola Tinbu-led government approved N2.5billion for Senate President Godswill Akpabio to purchase deep freezers, generators, and other empowerment projects for his constituency. A screenshot shared by social media critic Mahdi Shehu on X revealed that the Federal Ministry of Women’s Affairs included five projects at N500,000,000 each.

One project aimed to empower women with deep freezers, generators, and other items to boost their daily earnings in the two local governments of the North West Senatorial District at 250 million each (IKONO & ABAK).

Senator Agom Jarigbe, representing Cross River North Senatorial District, revealed that some senior senators received N500 million each from the 2024 budget. This comes amid budget padding allegations made by Senator Abdul Ningi, who claimed the Senate leadership padded the 2024 budget with N3.7 trillion. This led to Ningi’s suspension and public outrage against Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
