Internet Fraud: Police Fail to Bring Naira Marley to Court

The Federal High Court in Lagos, presided over by Justice Nicholas Oweibo, once again failed to produce controversial singer Azeez Fashola, also known as Naira Marley, for his fraud and cybercrime trial.

The police had been holding Naira Marley since October 3 of this year due to his suspected participation in the killing of Afrobeat musician Ilerioluwa Aloba, also known as Mohbad. No explanation was provided for the musician’s absence.

October 3, 2023, saw a Lagos State Chief Magistrate’s Court in Yaba remand him to the police’s custody for 21 days.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has charged Naira Marley on eleven counts of money laundering and online fraud, and he is currently on trial for these offences.

He was charged on May 20, 2019, entered a not guilty plea, and the judge granted him bail.

Since then, the case has gone to trial, and it is still going on.
