Kenyan Lawyers Pursue Contempt Ruling Against Government’s Haiti Police Deployment Plan
Kenyan attorneys and the opposition party have lodged a court application against the government for intending to deploy police to Haiti.
In July 2023, Kenya proposed sending 1,000 officers to aid in addressing a security crisis in Haiti, where gangs have displaced 200,000 individuals.
Ekuru Aukot, Miruru Waweru, and the Thirdway Alliance Kenya party contested the deployment in October, citing the imminent nature of the deployment, particularly with a May 23 deadline. The Kenyan government halted the deployment in March after Haitian Prime Minister Ariel Henry resigned.
