Libya Unites for Unified Government: Path to Stability
Libya’s Presidential Council, House of Representatives Speaker, and High Council of State Heads have agreed to form a unified government. The meeting was convened by the Arab League Secretary-General.
The attendees emphasized the sovereignty, independence, and unity of Libyan soil, rejecting foreign intervention. A technical committee will be formed to review the political agreement and finalize unsettled matters. The 6+6 committee, the joint committee of the House of Representatives and the High Council of State, is responsible for preparing electoral laws.
The Libyan actors emphasized the need for a unified government to oversee the electoral process and provide necessary services. The country’s political crisis worsened by the failure to hold elections in December 2021 and Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibah’s refusal to step down.
