My Family Has Done Enough, Everyone Must Play Their Part For Nigeria To Improve’ – Made Kuti
Made Kuti Doubts Family’s Activist Legacy Can Bring Change to Nigeria. My Family Has Done Enough, Everyone Must Play Their Part For Nigeria To Improve’.
Made Kuti, the Grammy-nominated Afrobeat artist, has expressed skepticism about continuing his family’s long-standing legacy of activism, believing that individual efforts, no matter how significant, are insufficient to bring meaningful change to Nigeria.
In a recent appearance on the ‘Breakdown’ podcast, Kuti highlighted the profound sacrifices made by his family members, including his great-grandmother Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti, who was tragically thrown from a building due to her activism. He also cited the lifelong struggles of his grandfather Fela Kuti, his father Femi Kuti, and his uncle Seun Kuti. Despite their immense dedication and personal costs, Kuti feels that meaningful progress remains elusive, leading him to conclude that only a collective national effort, rather than the burden of one family or individual, can truly advance Nigeria.
