Peter Obi Criticizes President Tinubu’s Cost-Cutting Measures

Nigerian presidential candidate Peter Obi has criticized President Bola Tinubu’s 60% reduction in international and local travel entourages as part of cost-cutting measures.

Obi argued that Nigerians need a 60% reduction in governance expenses, rather than fewer individuals in travel entourages.

He called for a comprehensive review of the 2024 budget to eliminate wasteful items and focus on sectors like education, healthcare, and poverty alleviation.

Obi called for transparency regarding the actual savings generated and their allocation. He emphasized the need for a 60% reduction in the total cost of governance at the federal level, requiring a revision of the recently passed federal budget to cut all wasteful and unnecessary items.

He further argued that substantial savings should be used to fund productive sectors and social investments, particularly in education, healthcare, and poverty alleviation.

Also, he emphasized that it is not enough to announce arbitrary cuts in the size of federal official entourages; the nation needs to be informed of the amount and application of these savings.
