Prof. Lumumba: Conflict In Congo Is A Multi-Billion Enterprise

In a recent interview showcasing Professor Lumumba, where he explained in detail his opinion on the conflict going on in the Congo, he said: The conflict in eastern Congo is part of a multi-billion dollar enterprise. Estimates indicate there could be over 120 organized militant groups in the area, many of which are engaged in illegal mining and arms smuggling. Although Congo lacks facilities to manufacture weapons or ammunition, arms continue to pour into the region. This implies that foreign actors have a strong interest in sustaining the conflict, as warfare demands resources like medicine, food, and water. Unseen forces from across the globe exploit the situation for their benefit. These same forces also drive ongoing conflicts in places like Libya, Syria, and the Sahel, treating Africa as a strategic chessboard for control by global powers.
The foundation of successful peacekeeping operations rests on engaging local governments and understanding the needs of the people. Lasting peace requires careful attention to the realities on the ground. Impartiality and a steadfast focus on the mission, without political interference, are crucial. The setbacks of missions like the UN’s in Rwanda provide important lessons: peacekeeping mandates must be executed without deviation, resisting the pull of political agendas.
Considering the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, one might contend that if the situation had been left solely to the Russians and Ukrainians, the war might have ended within two months through negotiation. However, once NATO and the military industries of Europe and America became involved, supplying arms and equipment, the conflict was transformed into an industry. The participation of these outside forces turned the war into a lucrative opportunity for arms producers, whose profits have likely risen dramatically due to the prolonged fighting.
