Tunisian Rights Activist Saadia Mosbah Detained Amidst Migrant Rights Advocacy
Tunisian human rights activist Saadia Mosbah, the leader of the Mnemty association, has been detained for investigation.
Mosbah, known for her advocacy for migrant rights and opposition to President Kais Saied’s policies, was apprehended amidst a crackdown on sub-Saharan migrants in Tunisia.
Local media sources indicate that authorities are probing Mosbah for suspected financial misconduct. Mosbah was vocal in her disagreement with President Saied’s remarks last year, where he referred to “illegal migrant hordes” as a demographic concern.
This arrest follows President Saied’s criticism of organizations supporting the rights of sub-Saharan migrants, alleging they receive substantial foreign backing.
Tunisia is currently facing a significant migration challenge with an increase in Sub-Saharan Africans attempting to reach Europe by sea.
