ASUU Warns of Nationwide Strike Over Nigerian University Lecturers’ Grievances
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) in Nigeria is threatening a nationwide strike due to the government’s failure to appoint Governing Councils for Federal Universities.
ASUU President, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke, expressed disappointment at the absence of governing councils in all federal universities and stated that President Bola Tinubu’s administration has had sufficient time to address the union’s demands.
The government dissolved governing councils in May. The union also criticized the 35% salary increase for professors and 25% for other university academics, labeling it as a wage award that could be revoked by the government at any moment.
