Kamaru Usman Dominates Joaquin Buckley for Unanimous Decision Victory at UFC Atlanta

Former UFC Welterweight Champion Kamaru Usman made a successful return to the Octagon last night at UFC Fight Night in Atlanta, securing a dominant unanimous decision victory over Joaquin Buckley. The judges scored the bout 49-46, 49-46, and 48-47 in favor of Usman.

Usman, who had been on a three-fight losing streak and was returning after a 20-month layoff, showcased his signature wrestling and control. He consistently took Buckley down in the early rounds, racking up significant control time and out-landing him in strikes, particularly in the first two rounds. While Buckley had moments of offense, especially in the later rounds, he was largely unable to deter Usman’s wrestling-heavy game plan.

This crucial win marks Usman’s first victory since November 2021 and snapped Buckley’s six-fight unbeaten streak. The performance re-establishes Usman’s presence in the welterweight division, and he immediately called for a title shot in his post-fight interview, asserting he can still compete at the highest level. The fight was also awarded “Fight of the Night” honors.
