African Nugget Calls for Immediate Release of Omoyele Sowore

African Nugget has issued a strong condemnation of the continued detention and harassment of Nigerian human rights activist and journalist Omoyele Sowore, calling for his immediate and unconditional release.

Sowore, known for his outspoken criticism of the Nigerian government, has faced a series of arbitrary detentions and politically motivated charges since 2019. Despite international outcry, including a declaration by Amnesty International naming him a Prisoner of Conscience, Nigerian authorities have persisted in what African Nugget describes as “sham trials” and “outright abuse of power.”

“The Nigerian authorities must listen to critics instead of seeking to gag them,” the organization stated, urging the government to uphold Sowore’s rights to freedom of expression and peaceful assembly.

African Nugget emphasized that Sowore’s treatment reflects a broader pattern of repression against peaceful dissent in Nigeria. The group called on the international community to hold Nigerian authorities accountable for ongoing human rights violations.
