Anthony Joshua’s Driver Charged in Nigeria

Tragic Highway Collision: Anthony Joshua’s Driver Charged in Nigeria

Legal proceedings have commenced in Nigeria following a devastating road accident involving former heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua. The driver of the vehicle now faces multiple charges after a collision that claimed the lives of two key members of Joshua’s inner circle.

Details of the Incident and Legal Action

On Friday, 46-year-old Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode was arraigned at the Sagamu Magistrates’ Court in Ogun State. The prosecution has brought forth four distinct charges against the driver, including:

• Causing death by dangerous driving

• Reckless and negligent operation of a vehicle

• Driving without due care and attention

• Operating a motor vehicle without a valid driver’s license

The court granted the defendant bail set at 5 million Naira, with the case officially adjourned until January 20.

A Profound Loss for the Team

The crash, which occurred on the busy Lagos-Ibadan expressway, resulted in the tragic deaths of Joshua’s personal trainer, Latif Ayodele, and his strength coach, Sina Ghami. Both men were pronounced dead at the scene after their Lexus SUV collided with a stationary truck.

Anthony Joshua, 36, was a passenger in the vehicle at the time. While he was pictured being assisted from the wreckage and briefly hospitalized for injuries, he was discharged on Wednesday. Local officials described the athlete as “heavy-hearted” as he visited the funeral home to pay his respects to his late friends.

A Bitter End to a Homecoming

The tragedy unfolded just as Joshua was celebrating a recent victory over Jake Paul. He had traveled to Nigeria to spend the New Year with family in Sagamu, the town where his ancestral roots lie.

The boxing community has rallied in support, with promoter Eddie Hearn and former opponent Jake Paul issuing statements of condolence. This heartbreaking event serves as a somber reminder of the fragility of life, even during moments of professional triumph.
