BREAKING: Nigerian Police Forced To Release OAU Students After Colleagues Protested At Moore Division

Two students from Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Oladepo Joshua and Ejike Kelechi, who were detained for protesting against Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike, were released after their fellow students rallied and nearly shut down the Moore Police Division in Ile-Ife, Osun State. The students were protesting Wike’s presence at the university, where he was scheduled to deliver a lecture due to concerns about his political conduct. Joshua and Kelechi had displayed placards inside the lecture hall, urging Wike to compensate those whose homes he had demolished.

The student protest, though initially peaceful, was met with hostility from some individuals attempting to disperse the demonstrators and obstruct media coverage. Among these individuals was John Udeh, a former OAU student who was arrested in 2018 for alleged cult-related activities. Udeh was seen confronting and intimidating the student protesters and reportedly confiscated their placards.

Sources allege that Udeh, despite his previous arrest and the passage of nine years since his supposed graduation, has remained on campus and is widely known as a cultist allegedly used by the university to intimidate students. His involvement in suppressing the protest against Wike further fueled concerns among the student body regarding his continued presence and alleged role in silencing dissent on campus.
