Emefiele Granted Bail by Abuja Court After 151 Days in Detention

A Federal Capital Territory High Court Judge has granted bail to Godwin Emefiele, the former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria.

Emefiele had remained in government custody for longer than the allotted period, according to Justice Olukayode Adegbola Adeniyi, who granted the bail.

The federal government’s conclusion of an investigation into the accusations against him and the filing of charges as early as August of this year served as the foundation for the judge’s judgement.

Emefiele requested bail, but the Federal Government refused, claiming that he would disrupt the arraignment scheduled for November 15.

Through Farouk Abudalla, the EFCC’s attorney, the organisation stated that Emefiele had not been under its custody for three months and urged the court to deny the bail plea.

The Federal Government may opt to arraign Emefiele on any day, the court ruled, but he must be released to his Senior Attorney Matthew Burkaa.
