According to a journal published by EIA, below are top 10 countries with large reserve of oil and gass in the world.

Nigeria is listed among the top 10 cointries in the world with the largest reserve of natural gas as Russia dominates Global Natural Gas Reserves, Middle East, a key player. Despite being on this list, Nigeria was ranked the poverty capital of the world in 2018 and to this day, still struggling to leave the spot as th Nigerian people in their mass number are still living in abject poverty.

New data was released by the Oil & Gas Journal via the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) as of December 2023 reveals the top countries holding the world’s largest proven natural gas reserves. The figures, measured in trillion cubic feet, highlight Russia’s overwhelming dominance in this crucial energy sector, followed by several nations in the Middle East.

Russia stands alone at the top of the list, boasting a staggering 1,688 trillion cubic feet of proven natural gas reserves. This figure places them significantly ahead of the second-largest holder, Iran, which commands 1,200 trillion cubic feet.
The Middle East collectively holds a substantial portion of the world’s natural gas wealth. Following Iran, Qatar ranks third globally with 843 trillion cubic feet, while Saudi Arabia is also a significant player, coming in sixth with 336 trillion cubic feet. The United Arab Emirates (UAE) secures the seventh spot with 290 trillion cubic feet.

Beyond these giants, the United States holds the fourth position with 615 trillion cubic feet, making it a major reserve holder outside of the traditional natural gas powerhouses. Turkmenistan, in Central Asia, is also a significant contributor, ranking fifth with 400 trillion cubic feet.

Rounding out the top ten are China (265 trillion cubic feet), Nigeria (209 trillion cubic feet), and Venezuela (195 trillion cubic feet). These figures underscore the diverse geographical distribution of natural gas resources, though with a clear concentration in certain regions.

The proven natural gas reserves are a critical indicator of a nation’s long-term energy security and its potential influence in the global energy market. These latest figures provide a valuable snapshot of the current landscape of natural gas availability worldwide.
