Sowore: Nothing To Evaluate In Tinubu’s Two Years As President

The Presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) in the 2023 election, Omoyele Sowore, in an interview on Channels TV, spoke about the state of the country under President Tinubu after 2 years in office.

MINIMUM WAGE

When this government came, the value of the Naira was 460 Naira to a dollar. Now, it is about 1600 to a dollar. Nigerians in their large numbers are suffering, things arr worse than what can be expressed on air. If you compare what worker are earning now in terms of values, it us worse than before. The only beneficiary of this is the president, who has just bought himself a brand new jet. The minorities are the ones having the biggest pay day in Nigeria while the rest of us are suffering.
The ₦70,000 workers’ minimum wage is less in value than the ₦15,000 previous rate when you look at the value of the naira. The only people who are making progress are those in the executive branch of government.

FUEL SUBSIDY REMOVAL AND NAIRA FLOATING

The removal of fuel subsidy has brought abject poverty to Nigerians and only benefitted the few in government, especially the executives.
If I won the presidency in 2023, I wasn’t going to remove fuel subsidy. I was going to remove subsidising those who are stealing from the poor. I wasn’t going to float the naira the way they floated it.

STUDENT LOAN

Education should be free. Those in government now enjoyed free education. Why are they not interested in offering the same free education to the Nigerian people? Students should be given grants to go to school. How can you give student loans to Nigerians who have no means of paying them back and whose parents are retired with no pension.
I don’t see student loans as an achievement. One of the worst decisions I made in my life was taking loans to go to school in the US.
