Tranquility Returns to Kinshasa Following Foiled Coup Attempt
Kinshasa, the capital of Congo, has experienced a more peaceful environment following the army’s thwarting of a coup.
Gunmen invaded President Felix Tshisekedi’s office, demanding his removal. The military confronted the attackers, eliminating some of them, and restoring order.
Locals expressed frustration, urging for diplomatic resolutions and thorough investigations into the security breach.
The coup occurred shortly after a shootout at the former Deputy Prime Minister Vital Kamerhe’s home.
This incident compounds the existing armed conflict in the east, where Congolese troops are battling M23 rebels in North Kivu province, leading to the displacement of over a million individuals since the previous year.
