He first gained major attention with his hit track Holla at Your Boy in 2010, swiftly propelling him to stardom and paving the way for his rise as an international Afrobeats icon.
In 2016, Wizkid became the first Afrobeats artist to appear in the Guinness World Records, marking a ground breaking achievement in bringing global recognition to the genre. His accomplishments continued with a Grammy Award in March 2021 for his role in Beyoncé’s 2019 song Brown Skin Girl, a historic moment that highlighted his influence on the global music scene.
Wizkid’s album Made in Lagos brought further recognition, securing Album of the Year at the Headies Awards and receiving a nomination for Best Afrobeat Pop Album. Made in Lagos also set a record as the longest-charting African album on the Billboard World Albums chart, showcasing its wide-reaching appeal.
In the United States, the state of Minnesota has paid tribute to Wizkid by designating October 6 as Wizkid Day annually since 2018, a day to honor his contributions to music and culture.
