Nigerian Govt Issues Travel Alert To Citizens In UK
The Federal Government of Nigeria has issued a travel alert to its citizens residing in the United Kingdom, urging them to exercise extreme caution due to heightened violence and disorder in the region.
The alert was issued by Ambassador Eche Abu-Ode, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on Monday.
The warning comes after recent riots erupted in various towns and cities across Britain, sparked by the tragic killing of three girls and injury of 10 others in a knife attack at a children’s dance class in Southport, northwest England.
Despite initial misinformation suggesting the suspect was an immigrant and radical Islamist, police have confirmed the individual was born in Britain and are not treating the incident as a terrorist attack.
In light of the escalating violence, the Nigerian government has advised its citizens to steer clear of political processions, protests, rallies, and marches, as well as crowded areas and large gatherings. The statement urged citizens to “be extra vigilant and take measures” to ensure their safety.
