How Richard Williams Stood To Inspire Venus & Serena Williams
Once upon a time, no Black was allowed to participate in tournaments in the US up to the 20s. It was after White Americans kept getting defeated, that African Americans were given a chance with strict conditions.
For example, in the 50s when Ali emerged, winning trophies for the US, he was given the condition to join the Army in the Vietnam War.
The thought that it is unnatural for a Black man to succeed or have such confidence seem strange to many up to the late 90s.
Richard Williams was the Tennis champ that never was, but he forged ahead, training his offspring to be the world champions. He is the father of Venus and Serena Williams whom today are known to be Tennis G.O.A.T.
In an interview with Venus by a Journalist, Richard stood by his first daughter, Venus who later became the world champion.
The interviewer aim was to demoralize Venus ahead of her game, systemically putting doubt of winning in her mind, but Richard came thru, not just as her mentor, but as her father.
This year, never let anyone make you feel less of yourself. Give that idea a SHOT, If you fail, get back up again.
