Kenyan President William Ruto sacks all Cabinet Ministers Following Weeks of Protests.
Kenyan President William Ruto has sacked most Cabinet ministers, vowing to create a more efficient government. He also removed the attorney general and delegated ministry management to permanent secretaries.
The decision followed public feedback and unrest spanning three weeks, triggered by a finance bill introducing tax hikes. The protests, resulting in over 30 deaths, evolved into demands for Ruto’s resignation.
Critics lambasted Ruto for appointing 21 ministers post-election in 2022, alleging nepotism over merit-based selections. Some ministers resigned for other roles, while those ousted at the polls were perceived as receiving political favors. Despite pledging not to endorse the tax-increasing bill, calls for Ruto’s resignation persisted. He acknowledged officials’ extravagance and introduced austerity measures, discontinuing 47 state entities and cutting funding to the First Lady’s office.
