Tragic: Over 80 Passengers Lose Lives in Congo Boat Accident

A boat carrying over 270 passengers has capsized near Kinshasa, Congo, killing over 80 people, according to President Félix Tshisekedi.

The accident occurred in Maï-Ndombe province along the Kwa River, and the boat was carrying 271 passengers to Kinshasa when it broke down due to an engine failure.

The boat hit the edge of the river bank and broke up, killing 86 of the passengers. The incident is the latest in a series of deadly boat accidents in central Africa, where overloading is often blamed.

Many passengers in remote areas cannot afford public transport due to limited roads. Congolese officials have warned against overloading and vowed to punish those violating safety measures for water transportation.
