National Grid Collapse in Nigeria: AEDC Confirms Power Outage, TCN Working to Restore Supply

Nigerians have experienced another national grid collapse, with the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) confirming the incident on social media.

The collapse occurred at around 4:28pm on 28 March 2024, causing a power outage across the franchise area. The AEDC and Eko Electricity Distribution Company are working to restore normal supply and are working with partners to restore power supply.

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has reported 46 grid collapses in the country between 2017 and 2022, with the most recent being in 2022.

TCN reported 15 and 12 grid collapses in 2017 and 2018, nine in 2019, four in 2020, and two in 2021. The company is currently working with its partners to restore power supply and will keep customers updated as soon as it is restored.
