Nigerian Labour Congress Issue 14-Day Strike Notice to Government

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) have issued a 14-day strike notice to the Federal Government, accusing it of failing to implement a 16-point agreement signed in October 2023.

The unions criticized the government’s failure to address the “massive suffering” caused by the hike in petrol prices and naira devaluation, which they attributed to worsening economic hardship.

They have issued a stern ultimatum to the Federal Government to honour their part of the agreement within 14 days from February 9th, 2024.

The NLC and TUC argue that the government’s failure to address the socioeconomic consequences of the IMF/World Bank-induced hike in PMS and the devaluation of the naira has led to dire economic consequences for the masses and workers of Nigeria.
