Exclusive: Yusuf Bichi Lobby’s for Ambassadorial Position

Nigeria’s Department of State Services (DSS) Director General, Yusuf Bichi, is lobbying for an ambassadorial position in Saudi Arabia to avoid any probes following the palliatives scandal.

Bichi, who is expected to leave the service soon, is pleading for a position in Saudi Arabia to avoid any probes. The All Progressives Congress (APC)-led administration has been known for rewarding loyalists and cronies with ambassadorial positions, as seen with former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen.

Tukur Yusuf Buratai, who was appointed Nigeria’s Ambassador to the Benin Republic despite embezzlement of funds for arms procurement. Bichi is currently being considered for the ambassadorial position he requested by the presidency.

Bichi has been accused of appropriating subsidy grants for staff and paying himself a “goodbye allowance” as he was believed to be on his way out of the DSS.

The DSS Director of Public Relations and Strategic Communications, Peter Afunanya, denied both charges, stating that Bichi has catered for the welfare of active and retired personnel and is seen as accountable, transparent, and incorruptible.
