Legal Showdown: Jacob Zuma’s MK Party Triumphs in Trademark Battle with ANC Ahead of South Africa’s May Elections

The Durban high court in South Africa ruled against the African National Congress (ANC) and in favor of the uMkhonto we Sizwe (MK) party.

This allows the new party led by former president Jacob Zuma to use its trademark and logo in the upcoming May general election.

Zuma parted ways with the ANC in December and is now heading the MK Party, which shares its name with the former armed wing of the ANC.

The ANC accused Zuma’s party of intellectual property theft in an attempt to prevent them from using the MK name.

The upcoming May elections in South Africa on 29 May are anticipated to be fiercely contested, with the ANC facing pressure to maintain power amid declining support in previous elections.
