Nigerian Army Boosts Ration Cash Allowance Amid Soldier Welfare Concerns

The Nigerian Army has announced an upward review of its Ration Cash Allowance (RCA) for its personnel, taking it from N1200 to N1500.

The RCA is used for the feeding of Nigerian military personnel in lieu of central feeding, and is applicable under certain conditions. The move is in line with the Chief of Army Staff’s philosophy to transform the army into a well-trained, equipped, and highly motivated force.

Also, the review was signed by E.E. Emekah, a Major General on behalf of the Chief of Army Staff, Taoreed Lagbaja. The action comes amid security challenges the military is currently combating in most parts of the country.

Soldiers have been lamenting poor feeding, salaries, medical treatment, and welfare packages despite abandoning their families and putting their lives on the line with massive promises by the Nigerian government.

Some soldiers have called for the immediate intervention of President Bola Tinubu and military chiefs to address the issue of poor treatment of soldiers on the front lines. The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, has denied the claims made by soldiers, stating that his soldiers receive less than N50,000 for a monthly salary.
