Fire Incident at Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos: Flight Operations Redirected to D Wing

A fire at Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos disrupted flight operations, leading to the relocation of all flights from terminal 1 to the D wing.

The Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) confirmed the incident, attributing the fire to smoke from the E54 bridge. Electrical engineers promptly disconnected power to the entire E Wing.

The Airport Rescue and Firefighting Services (ARFFS) team reached the scene by 05:30 hrs. Initial suspicions point to sparks from an electrical unit as the cause, with a comprehensive investigation ongoing.

By 06:41 hrs, the situation was contained, and efforts began to ventilate the building.

Flight operations at Terminal 1 of MMA have been redirected to the D Wing.

The incident caused tension and panic, prompting some officials and travelers to seek safety. Nevertheless, a FAAN team and Airport Rescue and Firefighting Services have restored normalcy at the airport.
