Fuel Crisis Grips Nigeria: NNPC Unloads 240 Million Liters Amid Rising Prices and Scarcity

Nigeria’s National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has commenced unloading 240 million liters of petrol to ease fuel shortages in the nation. The shipment arrived via five vessels and was transferred to five depots.

Despite these efforts, challenges persist, with numerous gas stations in Lagos and other areas of the country remaining shut, leading to prolonged struggles for citizens in acquiring fuel. In response, NNPC has issued an order prioritizing fuel distribution to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, resulting in a convoy of trucks being sent to the capital.

This situation has led to a rise in pump prices nationwide, with petrol being sold for prices ranging from ₦650 to over ₦1,000 per liter at different gas stations. Exploiting the scarcity, black marketeers are selling petrol at prices surpassing ₦1,200 per liter, depending on the location and the buyer’s bargaining power.

The surge in fuel prices and scarcity has exacerbated the challenges faced by many, especially with the start of the new work week on Monday. The NMDPRA is dedicated to ensuring equitable and prompt fuel distribution throughout all regions and is tirelessly urging NNPC to cater to the entire populace.
