Kenya’s New Defense Leadership: Major Appointments and Historic Milestones

Kenyan President William Ruto named Charles Muriu Kahariri as the new defense chief, succeeding the late Francis Omondi Ogolla.

Kahariri, who was the deputy to his predecessor, had nearly completed 40 years of military service before his passing. Additionally, Major General Fatuma Gaiti Ahmed was appointed as the commander of the Kenya Air Force, becoming the first woman to hold this position in Kenya.

Kahariri’s promotion led to John Mugaravai Omenda being elevated to Vice Chief of the Defense Forces and lieutenant general. Major General Paul Owuor Otieno was also designated as the commander of the Kenya Navy.
